Leaving a Legacy
Leaving a gift in your Will is a wonderful way to celebrate all God has done in your life by ensuring that future generations can experience the Bible for themselves.
What is a Will?
Contrary to popular opinion, you don’t have to be either old or rich to write a Will. A Will provides you with the opportunity to protect those you love and remember the causes you care about. You can write or update your Will whenever you like. It’s much more than a financial document too – you can include details about your funeral arrangements and name guardians for any children you have. Having a Will could ease the stress on your family and give them peace of mind in knowing that they’ve carried out your wishes, just the way you wanted.
What Does the Bible say about leaving a Will?
The Bible has a lot to say about the way we manage our finances and look after our family and others in need. Through a Will you have a wonderful opportunity to selflessly share all you have. In 1 Timothy 5:8 we read, "If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." Galatians 6:10 encourages Christians to "do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."
How to leave a Legacy
It’s really important that you seek the advice of a legal professional when you’re making your Will. This will ensure your wishes are carried out accurately and will ease the stress on your loved ones.
Leaving a legacy is an easy two-step process.
- Decide what you would like to leave to The Gideons: part of your estate, a sum of money or an item of value.
- Get your solicitor to write or amend your Will. Ensure you specify the gift you wish to leave to The Gideons and include our registered charity number: 221605 in England and Wales and SC039224 in Scotland.
If you don’t have a solicitor of your own you can contact the Law Society through their website lawsociety.org.uk or by calling 020 7242 1222 to find a one in your local area.
Let Your Legacy Live On
Every day we get letters from people across the world whose lives have been transformed for eternity by the Bibles we provide. You gift, whatever its size, will help more people to experience the hope and salvation of Jesus for themselves – can you think of a better legacy?
